​Why submit a pos​​ter?​

As a student, it’s hard to find opportunities to let others in the field know that you’re preparing to enter the workforce when you complete your studies. Displaying a poster at a major conference like AIHce is a fantastic way to gain visibility for your research and your ideas. It demonstrates your expertise in the subject and brings notice to you, your mentor, and your institution. Preparing a quality poster also showcases your attention to detail and deepens your understanding of the topic. Designing and creating a poster takes time and effort, but the rewards are worth it.

During a poster session you have the opportunity to engage in discussions with the people who stop by to view your work. You are given the opportunity to practice speaking about your research, which develops your ability to present a concise summary of your work, both visually and orally. This is an incredibly important skill to have when you enter the workforce. The interactions you have during a poster session can help you make connections with professionals in the field, giving them a glimpse of you as a potential co-worker or collaborator.

How do I submit a poster pr​oposal?

The first step in the process is to secure approval from your faculty advisor to submit a poster proposal. Make sure your advisor knows that you have submitted your proposal. You will be required to indicate faculty advisor review and approval in the submission. Once you have approval, access the online form for submitting a student poster proposal. The deadline for submitting proposals is Wednesday February, 28 at 11:59 PM Eastern. We cannot accept proposals after this deadline date.

Work with your advisor to make sure the information is in its final form. There will be no revisions permitted after the deadline or throughout the review process. Your submission is what the review committee will use to determine whether you display and present a poster at AIHce 2018 in Philadelphia. Make sure all information is complete and free of grammatical errors. Please note that proposals with incomplete data may not be accepted.

What happens once I submit my p​roposal?

Student poster proposals are reviewed and selection decisions are made by the Conference Program Committee; the AIHce review committee, which is representative of AIHA membership across a variety of fields and specialties.

If your proposal is accepted, you will receive information with the specifications for creating your poster from AIHA staff. You will need to submit a digital version of your poster to AIHA by Monday, April 30, 2018 and bring a physical poster for display at AIHce 2018 in Philadelphia. Student poster presenters are expected to attend AIHce. You will be assigned a session time during which you are expected to be present where your poster is displayed and talk about it and your work with anyone who stops by. The Student Author Attend Time is Monday, May 21, 2018 from 3:15pm-4:15pm.  Poster presenters are responsible for their own registration and travel costs for the conference, but students are eligible to register at a discounted rate

Poster Awards

The digital versions of student posters will be judged for award consideration prior to AIHce by several groups.

NEW for 2018- A new panel of judges comprised of members of AIHA’s Academic Special Interest Group and Fellows Special Interest Group will select three winners: a first place gold, second place silver and third place bronze, as part of the “Best in Show” awards. Winners will each receive a certificate and monetary prize. Additionally, each of the three award winners will receive the opportunity to give a 25-minute presentation in the Hub on their research. Award winners will also be featured in an issue of The Synergist after the conference.

As in past years, AIHA’s technical committees will also judge student posters at their discretion in consideration for specific committee awards. If you win an award from a committee you may be asked to attend their on-site meeting and/or meet with representatives from the committee for interviews/photos.

Winners will be determined prior to AIHce and recognition will take place at the conference.

To be considered for awards, students will need to submit a digital version of their poster to AIHA by Monday, April 30, 2018. AIHA will provide an email link for upload directly to all accepted students.

Submission Process and Guidelines

The final deadline for submitting proposals is Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 11:59 PM Eastern.

Follow these steps to submit a proposal:

  1. Secure faculty approval and guidance to submit a poster proposal.
  2. All applications must be submitted online via our online portal​.
  3. Notifications of acceptance or decline will be sent out in late March or early April.
  4. If your poster is accepted, you have the option to submit a digital file for award consideration. All students are required to print a hard copy that will be displayed in the poster area at AIHce 2018. (The digital file is typically the same one used to print the hard copy.)
  5. Print and ship your poster or bring it with you or send it to a local printer in Philadelphia. Students whose posters are accepted are required to attend AIHce 2018 and to be present during their appointed poster session author attend time.

  • Poster proposal submission deadline - Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 11:59 PM Eastern
